Terms & Conditions


Booking

Booking on to our lessons is required through BACS, cheque or cash.

By booking, or attending a swimming lesson with us, you accept these terms and conditions and they will form a binding contract between you and A Star Swim School.

You will ensure that you follow the general swimming pool rules set out within these terms and conditions and any rules that are specific to a particular pool.

We reserve the right to vary these terms and conditions at any time.

Medical Conditions

Parents/carers must notify A Star Swim School about any known medical conditions/learning difficulty/allergy, as this could affect the safety of a swimmer booked onto a course. Similarly any new medical condition occurring once a swimmer has joined A Star Swim School must be notified in writing immediately to infoastarswimschool@gmail.com.

Payments

All lessons must be paid for in advance and in full; payment secures your place for the term.

The course fee is non-refundable.

A Star Swim School accept:

  • Cash on poolside – Re-enrolling swimmers only

The course fee is non-refundable.

A Star Swim School sessions and teachers are contracted for the term in advance. We are therefore unable to refund any monies for sessions missed because of general illness to either parent/guardian or child, broken limbs, holidays confirmed prior to or taken during the term or for missed sessions because of late arrival or non-attendance.

Missed Lessons

Lessons are not transferable. A Star Swim School are under no obligation to refund, make up, credit or replace missed lessons.

Swimwear

All swimmers are required to wear swimming hats during their lesson.

Nappies

All children not yet potty trained must wear a swim nappy in the pool with a swimming costume or pair of swimming trunks over the top.

A Star Swim School reserves the right to refuse entry to any child who is not suitably attired.

Please take all your used nappies away with you unless a clearly marked bin has been provided.

Never leave nappies in an open bin (including those within the venue grounds).

Illness

Should your child have, or develop, any known or suspected medical condition, you must please consult your doctor before bringing them swimming and inform the Supervisor either or (if at a later date) by phone via email or post.

All information received is treated in confidence and with sensitivity.

Never bring your child swimming if they have any illness such as an ear infection, diarrhoea, vomiting, chicken pox, impetigo, conjunctivitis or a bad cold. Please wait until your doctor has given the all-clear before returning to classes.

In the instance of sickness and diarrhoea your child must have been clear of all symptoms for at least 48 hours before attending a lesson.

Our teachers may refuse entry to the pool if they reasonably believe that your child is not well enough to participate.

Food & Drink Consumption

Swimmers should not eat within 1 hour of starting swimming lessons.

No Food or drink is permitted on poolside, other than water.

Ratios

A Star Swim School will endeavour to keep the class sizes to the following:

Parent and baby – 1:8

All other classes – 1:6

Late Arrivals

Please be on time for each class, we ask swimmers to wait on poolside ready for their lesson 5 minutes before the start of their class.

If a swimmer is late they are always welcome to join in their class.

Assessments & Awards

Swimmers will be assessed by their teacher throughout the term following the STA learn to swim criteria.

All children will receive a badge and certificate on the last lesson of term.

Instructors

A Star Swim School reserves the right to replace advertised instructors or programmes when unavoidable, all instructors will be fully qualified.

A Star Swim School are unable to accept requests for particular instructors.

Spectators

Parents/Guardians are welcome to watch the lessons in the designated areas. (Depending on what pool your child has lessons at depends on where the viewing area is).

It is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian to supervise their child at all times. If you are bringing other young children who are not swimming please ensure that they are supervised at all times and not allowed to walk around the poolside unaccompanied.

Changing Rooms

Swimmers must always change in the changing rooms and not in any other areas of the leisure facility.

Swimmers under the age of 8 may use either gender changing rooms when accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Swimmers age 8 years or above must use the correct gender changing rooms.

Poolside

Food and Drink is not permitted on the poolside.

Shoes must be removed before entering the changing area onto the poolside or overshoes must be worn.

Pushchairs or buggies are not permitted on poolside.

Valuables

A Star Swim School will not accept liability/responsibility for the loss or damage to any personal effects or property brought to any lesson or left on the premises.

We cannot accept liability for lost, stolen or damaged items. You are therefore requested to ensure that no valuable items are brought to the swimming lessons. Please ensure clothing and other belongings are clearly labelled with the child’s name to help us return unclaimed items.

Speaking with the Instructors

A Star Swim School welcome feedback from parents/carers, we politely ask that parents refrain from talking with the teachers/coaches as this leads to lessons being unnecessarily interrupted.

If the matter is urgent, please speak to one of the Push and Glide Swimming School team who will speak to the teacher.

Re – Enrolment

All current clients will be given priority to re-enrol onto the next course of at least 2 weeks.

Re-enrolment forms will be sent via email.

If your payment is not returned by the re-enrolment deadline date, we assume that your space is no longer required and will offer it to another swimmer.

Changing Day or Time

We will try our best to accommodate any request to change the day, start time, duration, location or teacher.

Lessons Cancelled

In the unfortunate event that Green Park, Heritage House, Astley Cooper or A Star Swim School must cancel a lesson, we will notify you via email.

We will endeavour to add an alternative date to make up the lesson.

If A Star Swim School have been unable to provide an alternative date we will offer credit notes in lieu of payment for the next term or a refund.

If A Star Swim School do offer a refund a Sort Code and Account Number will be required in order for us to credit the account, the details must be given to A Star Swim School within 4 weeks of the missed lesson.

No refunds will be offered in the case of circumstances outside of our control Force Majeure such as Adverse Weather conditions such as snow, power interruption, ‘acts of God’ as deemed to be contractually outside of our control.

Cancelling a Course

The right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 does not apply to A Star Swim School. A Star Swim School is under no obligation to refund or transfer your money in the event that you are unable to attend part of or the entire course.

We regret that we are unable to offer an alternative for missed lessons. Unfortunately, what seems like one simple request is an impractically huge administrative task when spread across hundreds of clients.

We strongly recommend you ensure you are able to make the lessons before booking the course, refunds will not be offered.

If payment had not been received by the deadline date given (usually 24 hours) we will assume you no longer wish to take lessons with us.

We reserve the right to change your existing class time due to reasons beyond our control.

Pool Hire

A Star Swim School hire the pool from Green Park Activity Centre, Heritage House School and Astley Cooper School so is therefore not directly responsible for the pool maintenance.

A Star Swim School adheres to the regulations laid down by the letting facility for the pool.

Please follow any instructions given by the teacher regarding this. Swimmers are not permitted to enter the pool at any time other than their lesson.

Behaviour

In the event of a swimmer, parent, guardian, sibling or other associate refusing to obey an instruction from a member of staff, behaving in an unruly, abusive or threating manner towards a member of staff or any other person, or causing damage to pool premises or any of the furniture fixtures or equipment on the school premises, the swimmer shall not be permitted to continue with the lessons.

A Star Swim School shall then have the right to terminate the contract without further notice and without being required to offer any credit or refund to the swimmer and the swimmer shall not be accepted for any future course.

Jewellery

For Health and Safety reasons, jewellery must be removed before entering the pool.

We will allow one pair of small stud earrings but no bracelets, chains, necklaces, rings, ankle bracelets or friendship bracelets must be worn in the water.

Photography, Filming & Mobiles

The taking of photographs or videos are strictly prohibited in line with A Star Swim School safeguarding procedures.

We will reserve the right to ask for any photos and videos taken to be deleted.

Photography and videoing including mobile phones of the lessons or in the changing area or other communal area is strictly forbidden.

The use of mobile phones on the poolside is strictly prohibited. If you need to take or make a phone call please do so off poolside.

Child Protection

All A Star Swimming Instructors adhere to ‘Wavepower’ Child Protection Policy laid down by Swim England.

A Star Swim School staff have a duty to act if they suspect a child in their care may be suffering from abuse or if a child makes a disclosure about abuse. In such an event, the member of staff will follow Wavepower Child Protection Policy.

The nominated CP Welfare Officer is Rachel Kavanagh.

Insurance

All participants are covered by our Public Liability Insurance.

A Star Swim School does not accept liability for sickness, personal injury or death of any participants unless directly caused by the proven negligence of the company or its’ servants.

Organisers providing the facility and their servants are under no liability whatsoever in respect of personal injuries, loss or damage to property whilst attending any A Star swimming course.
